Low Dose Immunotherapy – An Immune Modulating Treatment for Complex Chronic Illness

Aug 15, 2022
Low dose immunotherapy, or LDI, is an immune modulation therapy that all patients dealing with complex chronic illness can benefit from, especially when there is an infectious component.

Low dose immunotherapy, or LDI, is an immune modulation therapy that all patients dealing with complex chronic illness can benefit from, especially when there is an infectious component. LDI regulates the immune system to have a normal response to a specific pathogen or pathogens (including bacteria, viruses, mold, parasites, etc.). When an infectious agent enters into the body, an inflammatory cascade is triggered in order to destroy that pathogen. With a healthy immune system, after the infectious agent is killed the inflammation ceases and the body returns to a state of health. In an individual with compromised immune function or an overactive immune system, persistent inflammation will continue and cause symptoms throughout the body. LDI helps to restore tolerance to the compromised immune system by desensitizing it to specific pathogens (or antigens). Disease conditions that can be treated with LDI include: allergies of all types, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, CIRS, mold biotoxin illness, autoimmune arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, endometriosis, sarcoidosis, autism, myositis, autoimmune hepatitis, some forms of psoriasis, and many others. This type of immune desensitization had its beginnings in the 1960s with Dr. Leonard McEwen who developed Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD), a form of immunotherapy that can treat different types of allergies. Dr. W.A Shrader Jr. then developed Low Dose Allergen therapy (LDA) from EPD. Within the past decade LDA was brought from allergy treatment into the infectious disease model by Dr. Ty Vincent. Dr. Vincent has continued to grow and develop this technique into what it is today. LDI is an in-office treatment where the specific needed antigens are considered depending on the patient’s unique presentation and history. Our office determines the right antigens for you using Autonomic Response Testing (ART). After the antigens are chosen, their “strength” or “potency” is then determined on an individual basis and then administered orally in office. This is an exciting, unique treatment that has great potential in helping chronically ill patients! To learn more about the Low Dose Immunotherapy offered at Market Place Naturopathic, give us a call or fill out our New Patient Form here!
