What is Somatic Therapy

What is Somatic Therapy?

The word ‘Somatic’ comes from the Greek word ‘Soma’ which means ‘body’. Our Soma is a
rich terrain of physical sensations, emotions, impulses and living memory from which we, in our
modern-day culture, are often disconnected. The mind-body connection is now well
documented. Many fields such as neurobiology and trauma research are emphasizing the
importance of acknowledging and engaging the body’s experience in order to heal fully from
traumatic and challenging events. This includes early life (developmental trauma), PTSD,
chronic stress and functioning in a state of anxiety and depression. Psycho-emotional complaints
do not exist solely in the mental sphere. Thus, they cannot be healed solely through mental
exercises and techniques.

Somatic therapy works to restore health and well-being by focusing on the experience of the
body, the Soma, in response to current or past life events. It utilizes both elements of
psychotherapy as well as manual or touch therapies. And it seeks to help create a greater
awareness of the mind-body connection. While components of talk therapy are utilized during a
session, somatic therapy emphasizes a body-centered approach that explores the present-moment
experience of the body’s sensations, feelings, tensions, gestures and drives. In addition, it
incorporates movement exercises, breathwork, vocal work, relaxation techniques, and physical
touch. The combination of these approaches aims to create a unique environment that allows you
to experience and express what has remained stored and stuck in your body.

Market Place Naturopathic COVID19 Announcement about Remote Consultations

We Are Available for Remote Consultations

Now Scheduling Remote Consultations

This is definitely an unprecedented time in our lives and there is a lot of fear and confusion surrounding the recent pandemic. Because of this, we feel it is important to reach out to our community of patients to let you know that we are learning more every day about prevention and treatment strategies. Know that we can be a resource for you to help you understand what this pandemic means to you and your loved ones, and how to move through this time feeling calm, supported and safe.

We anticipate an update from our governor mandating a state-wide ‘shelter in place’ and we encourage all local patients to stay home at this time. We have the highest regard for our community efforts to flatten the curve of pandemics, and we support King County Department of Public Health in asking all non-essential business to close and for each of us to practice social distancing. We also have the highest regard for our staff of naturopathic physicians, who as health care providers, are inherently in a high-risk category and could be potential asymptomatic carriers of disease. For this reason, we are restricting office visits and proceeding with Telemedicine (remote care only) with our established patients.

Our IV therapy program will continue to run at this time, as intravenous vitamin C, nutrient drips, rehydrationIVs and ozone UVBI therapy are essential prevention tools to our immune compromised patients.

IV appointment times are limited (due to increased sanitization practices) and will likely not be accessible in the upcoming weeks due to limited access to supplies. Please contact us at to determine if you are a good candidate for IV therapy at this time.

Peptide Therapy in Seattle Washington

Introducing Peptide Therapy at Market Place Naturopathic!

Therapeutic peptides are a promising approach to treat many diseases.

Peptides are easy to synthesize, have a high target specificity and selectivity, and are low toxicity. We are happy to introduce this cutting-edge modality to the Market Place Naturopathic community, as peptide therapy is especially valuable in healing from Lyme disease and complex chronic illness. Specifically, peptides can stimulate healing, improve brain function, improve circadian rhythm and sleep, and improve body composition by decreasing fat mass and increasing muscle mass. Although there are MANY therapeutic peptides on the market today, let’s dive into a few that may help you on your path to healing your nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and digestive system.

Nervous system health:

FGL(I) nasal spray can be used as part of a treatment plan for Lyme, chronic mold illness, chronic fatigue, brain fog, Alzheimer’s and other conditions with brain inflammation. FGL(I) nasal spray improves cognition and memory through a number of mechanisms including maintaining the cells that support brain neurons, reducing brain inflammation, reducing amyloid plaques, and decreasing cell death in the nervous system.
Cerebrolysin capsules can be used for the same populations as FGL(I) and the two medications are often used together. Cerebrolysin is a combination of nerve and brain growth factors that promote the survival of neurons. Cerebrolysin can also be used preventatively, such as for APOE4 positive patients with a high risk of Alzheimer’s or for early stages of Parkinson’s.

Musculoskeletal and digestive system healing:

I use BPC-157 in patients after orthopedic procedures, surgeries, invasive procedures, and musculoskeletal injuries. One patient with a chronic hamstring muscle tear that had “never healed” despite over 1 year of treatment healed with two rounds of injected BPC-157. Oral BPC-157 is fantastic for digestive disorders that have not fully responded to other treatments: particularly inflammatory bowel diseases, “leaky gut” and celiac disease.

Peptides are best used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that also addresses
infections, toxicity, diet and lifestyle factors. If you are interested in learning more, please request a 15 minute complimentary phone consult determine if your protocol could be enhanced by peptide therapy!

Family Constellation Therapy at Market Place Naturopathic in Seattle WA

Family Constellations Therapy – Now being offered by Klinghardt Certified Physicians at Market Place Naturopathic

Explore how family dynamics and ancestral trauma impact your healing from complex chronic illness.  Family constellations is a group therapy process that provides insight into our family system and relationship dynamics and how they impact our physical, emotional, mental, intuitive, and spiritual self.

Family Constellations Therapy was developed by the German psychologist Bert Hellinger, who spent 20 years as a missionary with a South African Zulu tribe where he pulled from traditional African family relations and merged them with his work in phenomenological orientation of group dynamics, psychoanalysis, bodywork, and Gestalt therapy. The result is a powerful tool that allows for the unraveling of ancestral trauma that impacts our everyday lives.

I was first exposed to this work during my medical residency with Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt who had the fortune of studying and learning the technique directly from Bert Hellinger. I spent 4 years working alongside Dr. Klinghardt, being immersed in this powerful healing modality. That led me to becoming a certified family constellation facilitator with the Human Systems Institute so that I can bring this life transforming work to my patients. Overall, the work of family constellations allows for profound shifts in family and relationship dynamics that can help to heal deep-seated trauma that is impacting our lives today.

Family constellations can be done one-on-one in person or via telemedicine or as a group process. Contact us at to schedule your family constellation appointment today!

NeuroCranial Restructing for headaches and pain by Dr Selena Eon

NeuroCranial Restructing – Learn More about this technique for chronic headaches, migraines, sinusitis and pain

Your brain is protected by a bony case, the cranium. You probably learned that the joints of the cranium, which are called sutures, do not move. This it not so! Try placing your hands snugly upon each temple, breathe deeply and move your jaw.  You will feel a gentle flex in the skull with each breath and jaw movement.

NeuroCranial Restructuring (NCR) is the original asymmetrical cranial release technique. The slight motion allowed in each cranial joint can be harnessed to incrementally change your cranial structure, allowing you to release residual tension in the connective tissue. I use careful analysis of your body’s proprioception system to determine which cranial joints should be treated to release unwanted connective tissue tension patterns inside your skull. With less tension in the connective tissue, bony structures in your body can move incrementally back towards your original design. NCR is performed with hands-on bodywork and an endonasal release. NCR is different than other cranial release treatments and is much more powerful than craniosacral technique!

NCR treatments accumulate for a greater beneficial effect, for most health conditions a minimum of 4-6 treatments are required over time. There are many reasons to choose NCR treatment, the most common conditions I help are chronic headaches, migraines, sinusitis and pain. As the only doctor practicing NCR in Washington state, I want to share this treatment with everyone who needs it. If you want your structure functioning optimally, this treatment will help.

Schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation to share your story and we’ll decide if NCR is appropriate for you.

The Doctors at Market Place Naturopathic are brilliant, compassionate and not intimidated by chronic, intricate health issues

I first met Doctors from Market Place Naturopathic at Sophia Health Institute back in 2017. At that time I was in the middle of my health crisis with Lyme, mold toxicity, and multiple co infections. From the very first appointment I knew that she was there for me. Not only did she advise and prescribe all the needed supplements and therapies to get me out of my crisis, but she guided me to heal on all levels. The Doctors at Market Place Naturopathic are brilliant, compassionate and not intimidated by chronic, intricate health issues. They are some of the finest physicians I’ve ever worked with. I can not say enough good things about them and Market Place Naturopathic. The practice itself is beautiful and a welcoming space to heal in. I spent 20 years looking for a doctor who could understand it all, and I am pleased to say that my life and health is completely changed because of her. Thank you so much I am forever grateful.

Our understanding of the relationship between Lyme and Mold, including mast cell activation, POTS, dysautonomia, neuropsychiatric symptoms and neurodegenerative disease, is progressing rapidly. Naturopathic physicians are uniquely equipped to treat patients struggling with complex chronic illness. Our approach as integrative medicine providers, is to stabilize inherent biochemical imbalances and genetic factors that influence your susceptibility to chronic infections, inflammation, and mitochondrial disease. Then
identify and tackle infectious and environmental triggers.

Exposure to toxic molds, whether in the home or workplace, can be catastrophic to your health. Our physicians often partner with indoor environmental inspectors (IEPs) to determine the source, when mycotoxin illness is identified. Find a list of our preferred IEPs within our growing network at

IV and IM Therapy Available at Market Place Naturopathic

IV and IM Therapy Available At Market Place Naturopathic

What is IV and IM Therapy?

Intravenous (IV) and Intramuscular (IM) therapy are injection techniques used to deliver safe, fast, and reliable treatments to those with a variety of conditions as well as those who are already healthy.

naturopathic IV treatments available at Market Place Naturopathic

Why use IV and IM Therapy?

IV and IM therapy provides a more direct route of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients through the blood stream. As such, it offers the advantage of faster and more complete absorption when compared to other routes of administration.

This route bypasses what’s called first-pass metabolism in the liver, which accounts for the improved absorption. This is an important consideration for patients with poor gut absorption or inflammatory gastrointestinal conditions, as they cannot absorb supplements well through oral administration.

IM and IV treatments available at Market Place Naturopathic

Is IV and IM Therapy Safe?

IV and IM therapy is administered by our trained and qualified Naturopathic Doctors. They have gone on to complete advanced IV therapy training courses and have years of experiencing using IV and IM therapy with a spectrum of conditions.

Working with Market Place Naturopathic has been the turning point in my health

Working with Market Place Naturopathic has been the turning point in my health and my life in general. An appointment with her is more valuable to me and useful than 100 appointments with most ‘mainstream’ doctors. I was unable to drive, read a book due to eye pain, some days could hardly sit up in a chair, for 3 years. I had been searching for answers that would get at the root cause of my chronic pain and infections for years, since I had to leave my dream non-profit job when I was 25. The Doctors at Market Place Naturopathic treat me like a peer or a friend while at the same time keeping track of so much knowledge from a vast array of disciplines. They have the best vibes. With their referrals to talented healers and scary-accurate ART testing of what gentle supplements and anti-microbials I need at any given time, they have given me my life back and then some. I am forever grateful to the whole team at Market Place Naturopathic, who have all played a crucial role in me now joyfully saying I have hope in my life again.

I Highly Recommend Dr. Alena Zweben

After seeing ‘the best of the best’ for 20 years for celiac, lyme disease and other chronic infections, I met Dr Alena Zweben while she was doing her residency and when she started her own practice I followed her to her new office. I love her cheerfulness, gentle, intuitive, compassionate spirit and her office space is healing and quiet. She is thorough and addressed several things that had been completely overlooked improving my health significantly, one being mold in my home! I can come with some complaint: physical, mental or emotional that seems unrelated to anything I know of and she gets it right every time! I totally trust her! She’s worth the trip from California! I highly recommend her to all who need to get the right answers and treatment for their healing and vitality.
